DIY is all the rage these days. There seems to be a new DIY show popping up every week. But when should you be doing projects yourself and when should you leave them to the professionals? Installing new flooring is something that can be easily done yourself, with the proper materials and preparation. Luxury vinyl tile is a perfect example. LVT looks amazing and at Flooring Superstores Edmonton, we carry a wide selection of different styles and colors. Luxury vinyl tile is a practical choice for homeowners because of its durability, affordability and most importantly, easy installation. So, once you've picked out the perfect materials for your home, how do you prepare your floors for installation? Here are some tips to get you started.

Remove Existing Flooring

It's important to remove the baseboards and any existing tile or flooring materials so that your subfloor is as smooth and level as possible for your luxury vinyl tile installation. Be sure to use a level and fill in any gaps if necessary.

Install Underlayment

Luxury vinyl tile requires an underlayment for installation unless your subfloor is in perfect shape. There are a couple different options when it comes to underlayment, so be sure to ask the experts at Flooring Superstores Edmonton which would be the best one for your project. In most cases the underlayment is very easy to install, you just lay it down on the subfloor and tape the seams with packing tape.

Mark Your Tile Locations

Starting at the door entrance of the room, mark the location of the tile with a marker. As you plan the layout of the room, keep in mind any pieces you will have to trim to size and try to avoid putting a large number of narrow pieces by a wall since this could create a sloppy look.

Cut Pieces to Size

Trimming your tile pieces before starting the installation will save you time and energy so be sure to plan ahead.

Spread the Adhesive

Always start spreading the adhesive from the farthest corner from the door to avoid trapping yourself in. Use the adhesive recommended by the manufacturer of your LVT. Ask the experts at Flooring Superstores Edmonton if you have any questions about which adhesive to use. Generally adhesive has a dry time of about 15 to 45 minutes, so be sure to only spread the amount you'll be able to tile.

Once you've gotten this far, you're ready to start installing your luxury vinyl tile. You'll be enjoying your brand-new floors in no time. Come out to Flooring Superstores for all your luxury vinyl tile needs in Edmonton.
