DIY Projects for Your Laminate Flooring Scraps
Laminate flooring looks great on floors, and it’s become one of the most popular flooring choices for homeowners and builders today. It’s not only attractive and durable, but it’s versatile too. For fun, we’ve assembled this list of DIY projects that you can make with leftover laminate flooring.

Picture Frame or Mirror

Start with a few scrap pieces of laminate flooring and cut off the “tongue” edge of the tongue and groove. With a mitre box, cut the angles in four pieces, groove side in, to make a frame in whatever size you want. Glue the edges together, and you’ve got a frame strong enough for a piece of glass or a mirror. Finish the project with a piece of scrap wood glued to the back to keep everything in its place. Add a hanging bracket, and you’re done!

Resurface a Table

Start by painting or staining the table legs and sides with a contrasting colour, like black or white. Lay down your laminate flooring on the surface of the table to establish a pattern and link the scraps together with the tongue and groove. When you are satisfied with the look, measure and mark, then cut off the excess material. Attach the laminate flooring scraps directly to the surface of the table with adhesive. When you’re done, you’ll have an attractive table with a wood top look.

Line Your Pantry or Closet Shelves

Leftover laminate pieces make an excellent surface for lining the shelves in your pantry, or closet, and best of all they look great. Simply cut the leftover laminate flooring pieces to fit, snap them together, and lay them in place. The result is an attractive, durable surface.

Make a Decorative Sign

Leftover laminate flooring can be used like any board to create an innovative, one-of-a-kind wall hanging. Trim off the tongue portion of the board (or boards, if you prefer a larger sign) to create a smooth edge. With paint and stencils or vinyl letters, create your message directly on the laminate surface. Mount a standard hanging bracket on the back, and you’re done! Signs like these make great gifts for friends and family, so use up your scraps and take care of your gift giving needs all in one afternoon!
